Excavation and Grading Uses

Moving dirt, digging holes is not just for the little ones who love to play inside the sandbox nor are they only for farmers who plow around the dirt planting crops, there is actually a whole industry dedicated to these types of environmentalservices.

.

Excavation is what you call the actual moving of dirt and the digging of holes while grading is done to ensure that the surface is at a level or is maintaining a certain angle.  Such services are quite crucial to a lot of engineering and construction work.  This is actually the first step towards completing such projects.

Building Foundation

When you are planning on building a house or a high rise structure, excavation and grading is the first step, so you can start building your structure’s foundation. If your building will have a basement then additional excavation will be needed but even single storey houses require foundation and the initial steps of excavation and grading is necessary to make sure that the building will level and that your building will not be prone to cracks and breaks after it has been built.  Pipeline holes are also graded to ensure that they slop downwards away from the building to ensure smooth flow of drain water.

Road Base

Road base also undergoes excavation and grading before the road asphalt is laid down, this is to ensure that both sides are even, and there are times as well that special grading is provided for roads with higher speed limits so turning will be easier at high speeds. Railroad tracks are also graded to ensure that trains tracks for both conventional and high speed trains will have a fine and even path to lay on.

Landscaping

Aside from the basic construction projects, excavation and grading is also used for aesthetic projects like landscaping. A steep slope in a garden may cause plants to not grow properly in the garden, right grading also allows the landscaper various options to landscape the area properly.  Grading is also important to ensure that the garden or yard will drain properly otherwise, the area can turn into a marsh and plants may get too much water and the plants will not survive.

In the end, excavation and grading is an exact science and needs to be completed with great precision and care to make sure that the result is exactly what you require. If you require such environmental services make sure you pick a company that has professional experience and can provide you with the best service possible.

  1. Thanks for posting this information. I was told that I need to find a company to come do this before I can begin building my home. I think that this is a very important process in building a home.
